A
Londoner born in the fifties,
I've lived and worked in the capital for most of my life.
I'm a true painter at heart and pursued this passion to paint
at The Hornsey College of Art.
During the past few years I've developed a style and reputation that has
lead to my success, and last year saw exhibitions in London and San Francisco.
I
am inspired to show images of gay men which challenge the stereotypical
ideal. Ordinary men who look at other men, natural guys caught in everyday
life.
No labels. The contrast of reality and fantasy. I've travelled a great
deal, and typically spent time sketching guys hanging out in San Francisco,
workers taking their siesta in an Umbrian piazza, or Portuguese fishermen
bringing in their catch in Lagos.
My
work and creative lifestyle have opened up opportunities for me to work
with The Lindsay Kemp Company on European tours, making promotional events
happen for stars such as Tina Turner and Sting, doing Mardi Gras in Sydney,
or being there for the Names Project Quilt in Washington.
I
draw on my personal experience of having lived in the metropolis and explore
the darker side of the gay subculture with an awareness and sensitivity
of the age touched by pride and the celebration of life. A world where
the young die from Aids and people struggle to be happy with HIV awareness.
With the growing reality of a society caught in the dilemma of prejudice
for things they struggle to understand.
I've
shared my life with my partner Martin (see PAINTINGS ) for the past 23
years and he has been my constant source of support, encouragement, and
inspiration.
